Dreaming of making new music, recording your first album? Whether you're 18 or 80, now is the perfect time. Here's how to start your journey with confidence and creativity!
Maybe you've written songs for years—or maybe you’re just starting. No matter where you are in life, recording your first album is one of the most rewarding adventures you can embark on. We want to help you do it the right way, with a streamlined process. And that starts with you, and one song.

1. Start small, start simple.
Recording an album sounds overwhelming if you think about 10 songs all at once. Instead, focus on one song at a time. Get one ready for recording by finishing the lyrics, melody and structure.
From there you'll need to do a few things to finish that first song
Record your vocal tracks
Get instruments on it
Mix and master it
Release AND tell people about it
You can do this yourself, or you can work with a collaborator to help fulfill your vision.
2. Find the Right Team
Some collaborators who you will need to help finish your music:
A producer who understands your vision. This is important to have somebody with guidance who can help you to the finish line in the most efficient and budget-friendly option.
As a thank you for being here, reach out to us here and mention this article to get a free discovery call. We'll talk about your goals for your music and if the solo route is better for you or working with a team.
Other collaborators:
Session musicians - studio pros who want to record on your songs
Mixing/mastering engineer - someone who can take your recorded tracks and make them sound industry standard quality
3. Choose the Right Studio (Or Build a Home Setup)
You can record your own tracks or work with a local studio once your song is ready to record.
If you want to record yourself you'll need some gear:
An interface
A solid mic
Recording software (GarageBand, Logic, Pro Tools) - Also known as a DAW
4. Budget Wisely
Albums don’t have to cost a fortune, and by working with a producer you can reduce unnecessary costs, especially in the studio. If you record at home you can save a lot of money and reserve those funds for collaborations - like a sweet live-recorded bass line on your song!
In my opinion, you should choose the 2-3 things you love to do and are good at (like singing, song-writing) and then leave the rest to others. It doesn't mean you can't do these things on your own, but they will do a great job and it will be worth the investment.
5. Release with Confidence - and Repeat!
Remember - you might inspire someone who's been waiting for music exactly like yours.
It doesn't matter how you release your first song, as long as you do it with pride and confidence. You can use Spotify, Distrokid, or BandCamp and send an email blast to your close friends and family. They are your best assets in the beginning.
All it takes is one song, one decision, one session to start.
Your journey begins now.
